AMWS is a brief of Anna May Wong Society
AMWS denotes claim only to concept or restoration of underlying work or claim relevant to the ownership
in our private collection if in fact an original copyright came with such acquisition or the claim is given as
our Intellectual property, ownership of this right can be completely distinct and separate from ownership of
material objects. We may not own the rights the work itself. In recognition of this distinction, our copyright
firstly should be known as an 'intellectual property right'.
The term 'intellectual property' is a little confusing, since it seems to suggest that people can own ideas -
they can't. They can only own the expression of those ideas and that is what our Copyright claim in most
cases asserts.
There are many other intellectual property rights, including trademark, patent and moral rights.
You may be able to help us. Despite our efforts to trace information on artists, authors and
photographers, or their descendants and legatees, the copyright status and ownership of certain works in
The Anna May Wong Society collection is still unclear. For example we have found multiple copyright
claims to the apparent same item with no clear means to determine which, if any, claim warrants validity.
We welcome any information which you believe might be helpful in this respect.
The following is a partial list, hoping to be expanded with your help, of original photographers. And whose
photographs may or may not have been originally owned by them though now, as far as we can
determine, have moved to the public domain through expiration of copyright or time test wide distribution
from multiple sources and now considered for all intent and purpose to be such or other issues such as
above making a determination impossible to address appropriate credit or permissions:
